Arts Leadership - Certificate of Museum and Gallery Management
ARLD 6371/ Museum Programming is a graduate level course part of the Certification in Museum and Gallery Management offered through the Arts Leadership Program. Students will be engaged in a seminar, learning about the development and implementation of museum exhibitions, curation, and public and educational programs. Cultural, historical, and theoretical implications of museum programs are explored through readings, research, and discussion. Guest lectures will enable students to meet professionals firsthand to gain knowledge of the field. This course will serve as an overview of the current trajectory of curation in relation to historical museum programs. The course will explore the development of methodologies, exhibitions, and public and educational programming, allowing students to develop knowledge of history, theory, and practice of museums as well as the current and emerging directions in the field. The course will examine exhibitions and programs that create artistic and educational opportunities. Being a graduate seminar, this course is centered around participation and discussion, where students will be expected to lead and shape conversations on critical topics and ideas.
